Psalm 91.

From the 1928 Book of Common Prayer:

Psalm 91. Qui habitat.

WHOSO dwelleth under the defence of the Most High, * shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say unto the LORD, Thou art my hope, and my stronghold; * my God, in him will I trust.
3 For he shall deliver thee from the snare of the hunter, * and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall defend thee under his wings, and thou shalt be safe under his feathers; * his faithfulness and truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for any terror by night, * nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 For the pestilence that walketh in darkness, * nor for the sickness that destroyeth in the noon-day.
7 A thousand shall fall beside thee, and ten thousand at thy right hand; * but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Yea, with thine eyes shalt thou behold, * and see the reward of the ungodly.
9 For thou, LORD, art my hope; * thou hast set thine house of defence very high.
10 There shall no evil happen unto thee, * neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, * to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee in their hands, * that thou hurt not thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt go upon the lion and adder: * the young lion and the dragon shalt thou tread under thy feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him; * I will set him up, because he hath known my Name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will hear him; * yea, I am with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and bring him to honour.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, * and show him my salvation.

A word about "black guns."

Those evil "assault weapons".

Musings from a libertarian/conservative type on why the continued legality of semiautos and 30-round mags might be important to the survival of the West:

Who is going to protect the People from the "Nation" if they decide to take your right to free speech, assembly, vote etc away from you? How efficient would a WW I era bolt action rifle with a 5 round magazine be against a 100 round drum fed, 3-shot to full auto weapon?

What is the difference between an M1 Garand (8-shot, semi-auto) battle rifle of WW II fame, a semi-auto hunting rifle that holds 5 shot clips and an AR-15 (semi-auto, 30 round magazine) as far as what constitutes a "so-called assault weapon", the number of rounds in the magazine? Is that what defines an assault weapon in your mind? The number of rounds in the magazine, or is it the fact that the gun is self loading after each trigger pull? Is it the size of the gun, the caliber of the round, the length of the barrel, the type of sights, the presence or lack of a bayonet mount or flash suppressor, a folding or collapsing versus a rigid stock?

To what extent would you allow the citizens of the country to be armed if you were given sole discretion in the matter? Would you choose to disarm the entire populace as did Stalin and Hitler? Would you allow only single shot weapons like the Springfield rifle used in the Civil War and Little Big Horn? Perhaps we could keep revolvers like the 38 Special or 357 Magnum. Maybe even repeating arms like the lever action Winchester 94? Or perhaps a pump action like most shotguns use? Just how far should you, or anyone, especially a government, be allowed to decide what is best for me in deciding what level of protection I can provide for myself, my family and my country? How effective would the police, National Guard and armed forces be if 5% of the illegal immigrants in this country (approximately 1 million strong) decided tomorrow that they were going to take back the territory the US took from them? Would you want a single shot bolt action rifle as you guarded your home or a self loading rifle with a 30 round magazine? Just because we haven't seen a situation like Somalia or Iran in the last 145 years doesn't mean we won't see another one in the future. What happens if a few of our generals decide that they can run the country better than the elected officials and can get half of the troops to agree with them? How about if a hostile nation explodes a nuke in Washington with Congress, the Supreme Court and all of the elected Executives and appointed Cabinet members in town that day?

While none of these scenarios are likely to happen, there exists a possibility that one of them could. As long as there is that possibility, neither you, nor anyone else is going to decide for me what level of protection is reasonable for myself, my family or my country. Does that help you understand why an individual might need a so-called "assault weapon"?
