If the history texts are any accurate guide, he was my kind of man.

I love the scene in Gods and Generals where he comes galloping toward his first meeting with Thomas Jackson, skids his horse, and then jumps off, tucking his plumed hat into the crook of his arm as he strides up to Jackson.

A few moments later:

Jackson: "That is an impeccable hat, sir."

Stuart, with a demented gleam in his eye, pauses and says: "Thank you, sir."

Then, as he departs: "And Colonel: know that I will tell my men always to gallop toward the enemy, but trot away."
