Kuehnelt-Leddihn on Catholicism and Reaction

From the Wiki article re: "Reactionary":

Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn writes that the perfect Roman Catholic "programme" is the Spanish saying:

Tener un hijo
Plantar un árbol
Escribir un libro

("To have a son, to plant a tree, to write a book" is the perfect "reactionary" pattern; a synthesis of patriarchalism , agriculture and artistry.)

This saying also has the merit of illuminating the critical differences between reactionaries in a strict sense and advocates of capitalism (who may, in certain circumstances, become their allies). To capitalism, agriculture isn't a matter of "planting a tree" because it makes one's estate look prettier, gives the children some shade, or in general represents part of a way of life. Agriculture under capitalism is a matter of mass production, sophisticated technology, and standardized futures contracts traded at commodity exchanges. Orange trees are planted when the orange concentrate futures market gives that signal -- an attitude anathema to reactionaries.

I'll proudly wear the label.

My sincerest apologies. . .

for leaving Huw Raphael's Sarx blog up so long.  Apparently, he's reverted back to his former perversion, or something so close to it as to be irredeemable.  Concomitant with all that, he's left Orthodoxy for "Liberal Anglican and Liberal Catholic flavours."   (You can imagine our surprise.)  Sorry to say I didn't know about Huw's fall until tonight.

So, I just deleted the link to his blog, and as you can see I will not link it in this blog entry.  May God have mercy on his soul.

I've learned a lesson from this incident, and other ones:  we should not parade the "testimonies" and "witnesses" of repentant homosexuals, as though they were some sort of trophy to those of us who treasure orthodox religion.  Because all too often they turn out to be temporarily repentant homosexuals.  If a homosexual is to seek redemption, in most cases that should be done in utter, lifelong silence.  Which means no celebrity status.  It means no blogs or other kinds of media.  It means no public statements.  It very well may mean the monastic life of a hermit, away from the temptations of modern media, away from the stimulus of our sexualized culture, and most importantly, away from other males.

Even Nouwen's works, by my lights, should be read with utmost care, for while he apparently was a celibate, and while those works contained many flashes of wisdom, the spirit of utter feminization pervaded them.

The homosexualization of Western culture is like leprous rot (with apologies to pious lepers everywhere).   For this reason and others, we need to be judicious about those who purport to be clean.  Only if they persevere to the end will they be saved.  And given the awfulness of that particular form of arrested development, those of them who purport to be orthodox should be silent unto the end.  Then, and only then, will they reveal the Glory of the Lord in their bodies and souls, and it will be a matchless Glory.  Until then, however, they should just shut up and seek their salvation in the wilderness, as did so many saints of old did.

Please, Huw:  for the sake of your soul, and of the souls around you, please shut up.

But they are our role models, our heroes. . .

and the high priests of our weekend religion, doncha know?

So-called "conservatives" who are sports aficionados:  clueless.

To get a clue: get outside and do something truly sporting.  Like flyfishing or hunting.  Leave the emulation of "sports" to the inner city.

Atta boy, Dmitry.

Russia will defend interests abroad: Medvedev.   And in so doing, ensure that over-ambitious American neocons understand that the defense of American interests abroad has limits.  Good timing too, since the neocons are on the verge of bankrupting the country.

Enough of American "unipolarity."  Per Huntington:

The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion, but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact, non-Westerners never do. . . .

Hypocrisy, double standards, and "but nots" are the price of universalist pretensions. Democracy is promoted, but not if it brings Islamic fundamentalists to power; nonproliferation is preached for Iran and Iraq, but not for Israel; free trade is the elixir of economic growth, but not for agriculture; human rights are an issue for China, but not with Saudi Arabia; aggression against oil-owning Kuwaitis is massively repulsed, but not against non-oil-owning Bosnians. Double standards in practice are the unavoidable price of universal standards of principle. . . .

In the emerging world of ethnic conflict and civilizational clash, Western belief in the universality of Western culture suffers three problems: it is false; it is immoral; and it is dangerous . . .  Imperialism is the necessary logical consequence of universalism.

Long live Russia.  Long live Orthodoxy.  Away with secularist and heretical Christian elites.
